Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of Godʼs mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1 NIV
I spent time yesterday thinking what this verse might mean. As I was growing up, preachers and teachers talked about how this verse meant we should dress modestly, not have tattoos or piercings, and eat good things. But those are all earthly responses. I exercise regularly, dress modestly and try to eat right. But none of those things are going to show any other human that I worship God.
I believe that this verse tells us to give God not just our mind or our hearts...but all of our bodies. We praise him with our mouths saying his words, we worship him with our hands doing good works, we honor him with our minds dwelling on him, we pursue his kingdom with our feet as we go where he tells us. This is presenting our whole body.
It takes all of ourselves every day.
