This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 1 John 3:16 NIV
This is a tough verse. I don't know about you, but I can't wrap my head around what that kind of love really looks like. I have faith that Jesus loves me and I believe he gave his life for me. I see this kind of love in movies. I read fiction books about it. But would you ever really know unless presented with the situation?
How much are you willing to sacrifice for those you love? For your brothers and sisters in Christ? For the stranger down the block? I'll tell you this: our soldiers know about this kind of sacrifice. They give of themselves to protect our right to sit in our homes and debate on whether God exists and on how much he really loves us.
So yes, this verse is a tough one. It's hard to love others sometimes. And it's hard to feel God's love all the time. Because of this we should pray and ask for direction, faith, and help to channel God's love through our actions every day.
