Freedom in Law

For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. 1 Peter 2:15‭-‬16 NIV

There is as dichotomy at work in this verse: live free but live as God's slaves. It works the same in society: live free but live under the rule of law. It also works this way in homes across the world: live free but live by the rules of the home. In order to be truly free, we must have boundaries and laws, otherwise it will deteriorate into anarchy and destruction.

If you are given a lot of money and told it is yours to spend as you see fit, there are many ways that could go very wrong. You could be robbed. You could spend it on things tjatbate bad for you or will cost you more down the road. But if you were given some boundaries, the human experience tells us that we will feel more free to do what is right and good for us and for others. Rules are not a bad thing.

So feel free to be loved. Feel free to know you will live for eternity. Feel free to rejoice that God has conquered all. Then read his word and follow his commandments to be truly free.
