For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 NIV
This is one of the foundational verses of our Christian faith: believe in Jesus to have eternal life. It's interesting that in biblical times, the writer refers to wages as the payment for sin. That means that wages had significance even back then. We know what it's like to chase a dollar or higher salary. Our worth in the workplace is partly based on how much the employer is willing to pay. And for that he will expect something of equal value in return. This is how it has gone for literally thousands of years.
So what do we bring to our job as a soldier of Christ, as a witness for him? What do we think our wages should be? What should Christ be willing to pay? He paid the ultimate of all wages...his life. He gives it freely for each and every one who calls on his name. Is this a fair wage? Actually, no. We deserve much less, even death, for we have not held up our employee part of the relationship. But the grace of God makes us whole and fills in the gaps where we are lacking, so that our performance evaluation is clean and spotless.
Be God's employee of the month and beyond.
