Send Prayers and Get Busy

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:18 NIV

After the tragic school shooting earlier this month, many people took to social media to offer prayers and thoughts of sympathies, including notables like actors and politicians. Then the backlash started. People responded that they didn't need prayers and thoughts but action to make things better.

I agree and disagree. Jesus and the apostles told us that faith without works is dead. But they also said that with works without faith will fall short. We need balance. That balance comes when those that are called to do the work get busy doing it. Those called to pray get busy praying. Those called to finance the works get busy sending funds. This is how God's work gets done.

We need both words and actions, prayer and faith, hope and love to accomplish all that God needs us to do.
