It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1 NIV
Freedom. This one word evokes many emotions, and I know that many devotions and sermons have been written and preached on this concept. So I want to focus on the standing firm part. As Christians we tend to be people pleasers, not wanting to rock the boat, to be open to others and their points of view, to not judge. That's our call to service. But at what price? There are times we let ourselves become burdened by the world that we are not only ineffective in our ministry, but we become troubled in our own lives. It's because we don't stand firm in our beliefs because we are trying so hard to be peacekeepers.
It's a fine line that needs a lot more space to flesh out than I have here. I do know that no matter how much we want to please everyone, that is not our calling. Our calling is to be a steadfast servant for God. To share his love even when that love must rebuke or correct a fellow believer. We must stand firm in knowing that he knows best and is leading us down the right road, even when we think we see an easier way. Be firm in your faith and do not let the world shake you with its twisted view.
When in doubt, run to the word.
