For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 1 Peter 1:24 NIV
My yard is demonstrating the latter part of this verse very well. The grass is withering and the flowers have stopped blooming. I'm pretty sure it's me. I tend to have black thumbs. Oh, and I also kill fire so if you have a fire and need to put it out, call me to come play with it. It will die quickly. But I digress. We work hard to keep our yard groomed and watered and such. We try to do some nice landscaping too. We don't have a lot of time to putter in the yard so what we have is minimal. But come fall and winter, the grass is hopeless. It's brown and icky and almost gone in some spots.
Humans are like this too. Our souls may be eternal but our physical bodies are not. We are only here for a little while. We work hard to keep our minds sharp, our bones strong, and our muscles flexible. But the fall and winter of our lives will come and our bodies will wither.
But take heart. We have a future where there is no pain. No more calorie counting. No more hard core workouts. Our bodies can rest forever while our soul lives free in God's presence.
